I'm not sure how it works but white smoke is lean black is to much gas and blue is oil from what I've heard.

Google it.
I found a few posts on forums about it and no real evidence. I'm calling B.S. on this one.
Black is rich, blue is oil and white is steam from water.

I've been having a sputtering turbo problem today and fixed it apparently the screw got lost at the end of the rubber tube (bypass mod). Perhaps that was the original problem.

I wish the 97 gmc I use to have had those 3 options. Stick and 4wd. But I didn't have the cup holder in the console either I had the cd storage instead. Who uses cd's.......really

The CD storage was a piece that could be swapped out for the cup holder. the cup holder piece should have been with the truck some place.
The short throw made a nice change in the shifting experience.

I feel the same way. However the cup holder was missing. I was the second owner of the truck it was a construction foreman truck before I owned it. Nice clean truck

Drove the monster today. It needs a lot of love, but it has two features that will probably keep me from buying a new truck.
NV3500 or 4500?
I miss my 4500.

Hmm.
So, don't blow a fuse?
This has to be the dumbest argument for manual hubs I've ever seen.
Then again, to be honest I've never seen a good one.

How about gas mileage? Also if your gonna use a manual transfer case because you don't want to deal electronics, auto locking hubs don't make a lot of sense...

It's a truck, economy is not a concern. No hubs to worry about. There is one solenoid in the system and it is for the actuator the locks the right shaft to the front differential. When it's disconnected it freewheels. If that solenoid fails I could make a manual control for it. This isn't a Ford.

I had a 1992 C2500 with 5 speed and TBI 350.
My dad has a 1997 K2500 with automatic and a 350. Same 4WD setup mitdr774 posted.
He gets about the same gas mileage I did with his automatic hubs and my truck was 2WD.
Also as mitdr774 said I don't consider one solenoid to be "electronics".

My 97 2wd only got 12-14 mpg in town.....16 hwy if I was lucky that was with a 350 and 4l60e I believe automatic with overdrive

My dads is a 350 + 4L80E and I think 4.10 gears.
He can do 15-16MPG.
I was able to burp out 17MPG highway a few times but mine had 3.73 gears and a manual.
Usually I was seeing 14MPG around town like you.

That isn't to bad. Beats the snot out of a 84 2wd with 4 speed and granny low. No mater how I drove it. It got 10 mpg at most with a slightly modified 350. Well it was punched .30 over with large valve 305 heads and a lunati voodoo cam that was a little on the lumpy side

How can you use 305 heads on a 350 when the 350 is a larger bore and why would you?

Very common. Boost compression I believe. The actual bore is smaller but that doesn't matter the block is the same size.
As for locking vs manual, I guess it's just a matter of opinion but to me the less you have automatic the better. Never been anywhere I couldn't take 30 seconds to spin the hubs.
