Has anyone done this and then just lopped off the air box and fitted a cone filter on the end??? just wondering... might bite the bullet and just try it![]()

This has been done by a few people here. I think they refer to it as the "Redneck intake".
Another revival here, I just took the snorkel off of my Sonic but how in the flying monkey wrenches did you get it off? I ended up just cutting the styrofoam-ish material off the end of the plastic and leaving the plastic there....couldn't figure out how to get the whole assembly off...but I just thought that I'm about to go google if there are directions online somewhere for how to remove it and i just wasted all that extra time!

And also for those of you who are pretty lazy-ish like me and don't want to take the wheel off.....Take the wheel off....my shoulder and neck beg of you. AND also i have a 2015 1.4t LT without belly pan....but there were 2 torx screws underneath the bumper that need to come off along with the 3 plastic anchors and 3 torx screws in the actual wheel well along with unlatching the 2 seperate (back and front) pieces of the wheel well where they are connected up top.
Happy Modding!
Here is my hard piped SAB. I like to keep that low keyed sleeper look so it's black silicone and semi-gloss black high temp engine enamel on the aluminum tube.
Unlike others here I actually went with 2.75" diameter tubing and silicone coupler and a 2.75" to 2.5" 90 degree elbow, this exactly matches the diameter coming off the air cleaner assembly. My thinking is keeping all the tubing diameter the same so the air doesn't speed up/slow down as it moves through different diameter tubes. Just like city mileage stop and go takes more energy compared to steady highway speeds.
But no matter what it's a big improvement over the stock tubing; also, I got my tubing with a 45 degree bend like others but that isn't quite a sharp enough bend although it looks ok in the pictures. I may get another section of tubing with a 60 degree bend later. Yes, there is a missing hose clamp in the picture.
Edit: I did end up getting a 60* bend which worked better than the 45. Also, I ended up replacing the 90 degree elbow with a 2.75" to 2.25" which fit better on the turbo inlet. No new pics though because it looks exactly the same.

Price would be around 100-110 shipped"...We have a silicone replacement we are debating on releasing. But we would need a decent amount of preorders for the first batch ...."
If its reasonably priced I'm in.
I have a 2012 ...I notice some people with later years have a big black plastic piece right before the turbo...almost like it makes it bigger before going into the turbo? Wonder if that makes the car twice as fast![]()
