Hill Hold Assist - Is Yours Working?

I've grown to rely on the assist, not that I need it, but that it lets me lean less on the clutch and start out more calmly, which is good as I've been ferrying around a friend to numerous doctors appointments and don't really want the inside of the Sonic decorated. Knowing when it will and won't engage is key though, a mild slope it's really not there, it has to be serious.
It has never made starting out difficult, I barely feel it getting in the way. The only problem I have is when I want to use gravity to back out of a driveway... it does overcome gravity for a couple seconds. Not an actual problem where I'm doing it, but I could see how if you had to back out into a busy road, that it might be annoying.

I think its an amazing engineering idea, and I will get use to it and eventually like it
But currently having a heck of a time learning how to get use to it. My front door and where I park the Sonic is a relatively steep road so it wont take long to learn but when you get use to feathering the gas and clutch in a certain manor it just takes a learning process to over ride habit...is this just me or others find it slightly weird at first?

I can't say for certain, but I think I remember reading somewhere that it does. That does, however, go against my gut feeling.

For future reference, I didn't see this said anywhere on here, but if you are sitting on an incline steep enough for the hill hold to engage but you are sitting in neutral with the clutch engaged and let off the brake, hill hold will not work. The car has to be in gear for hill hold to work.

I would imagine it works the same. It works on my auto.

Having an issue with mine, It seems to works half the time. To clarify, my driveway has a slope to it, the hill assit works about half the time on it. Also there are some slight hills on the way to work. Some of the time the hill assists works, and soemtimes not. Of course these slopes are not changing so I don't know what the issue is.
Personally I don't care if the car has hill assist or not, but I do want it to be consistant, either always working or always off (while on a slope of course). I get use to the clutch a certain way and don't want to always be second guessing if the hill assist is going to work or not.
Any ideas on why it works half the time? Only thing I can think of is something wrong with sensor that determines if car is at 5% slope or not.

Mine has always been consistent in the few spots where I park in the same spot on the same slope all the time. There have been places where I didn't know if it would work or not, and sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't, but those were borderline slope level and I figured some were enough and some weren't.
My thinking here is it is time to experiment; go find a really steep slope somewhere where rolling back won't hurt anything, and try it repeatedly. There's more to it than just slope, you have to come to a full stop and things like that... I don't really deal with it very often so I don't quite remember my conclusions about what those things were. Perhaps you are altering some other part of your behavior and so getting different results?
If not, it sounds like time for a service call... but I'd check everything I could to make sure it's a repeatable issue and not just you being an idiot (which is how they will make you feel if it was something you're doing)

I just wish it had a light that would turn on when it is activated. It would be good to know if you could depend on it working or not.
99% of the time I can get started without even feeling it but sometimes I want to test it and its a bit of a surprise when you start rolling backwards.

If the automatic has it as several posters here have stated, I wish it were a little more sensitive. The neutral idle feature makes this thing behave more like a manual on a hill since there is a brief delay for it going into 1st after releasing the brake. First time I noticed this was on a congested street near work where I almost rolled back into somebody who was way too close to me... 
On hills if I have a moron an inch off my rear bumper, I have to remember to either leave it in manual mode so it stays in 1st like a traditional automatic or have one foot on the brake and one on the gas. I buy automatics because I don't have the desire, the energy, or the coordination to interact on such a level with my car. This thing changes that.opcorn:
