psi and mpg

The sedan has 38psi 0n the door from factary i just upped mine to 40 psi but the temp is droppin around here.from the dealer mine had 32 and didnt change it til yesterday.my mileage went up but i was on highway more and was running 93 octane.It was 1200miles til i 1st checked tire psi.i have only drove little over 450 miles since upped psi to 40 psi COOL(not driven for many hours when ckecking psi)

28.4 is my current mpg and it is climbing , I drive pretty hard so I'm assuming I will be between 29-30 when it peaks !! That's in a 1.4 with a manual tranny

ungawd, I assume you have different tires than me as mine shows 38 cold. I have the 15" rims. Sure, the temperature fluctuates but the cold indication means when the car is sitting and the tires are at ambient, whatever that may be. I have to adjust my tires throughout the year, sometimes removing some in the spring, adding some in the fall and so on. Usually I'll see 39-41PSI after a trip. Right now temperatures are dropping so I will probably end up with mine around 40 PSI cold as I expect the typical ambient temperature to continue dropping. This way I won't have to add some in December.

That is a rough commute! Each one of those highways is a traffic trap. I have the LTZ with the 17s. Going 38 PSI and over is just too rough of a ride.

I went with the LTZ because the deal was too sweet. It is an auto, but the choices were too little, and the dealers around here were itching to dump all 2012s. If I had a perfect choice, it would be an LT manual. They seem to be made to squeeze as much MPG as possible.

However, I am now spoiled...

Those are some great numbers. UG and SG IIRC, calculate GPH engine size, and other information used during the drive. In my jetta with over 80K miles of use the SGII was within 1.5 MPG. Most of the time, under 1 MPG. Having the DIC be around 1.5 off isn't bad.

As far as the gallons left, there are a few unforeseen factors. The tank holds more than 12.4 gallons. When the nozzel clicks off is a factor. With the diesel Jetta I took that out by filling right to the edge of the mouth every time. My Jetta's 14.5 tank could hold just over 17 gallons. I have done over 800 mile trips in that car.

I wouldn't do that with gasoline.

There are some guys that hit around 1000 miles, no joke.

I have done a few trips from central NJ to SC on one tank. At that point you just fill up because it isn't worth filling up while enroute, or find a quality station with cheaper fuel.

When I get ready to get another Sonic, they better at least have the 1.3L diesel. I would rather the 1.7L, it would be better at highway speeds around 70-80 MPH.

With that setup, I don't see the Sonic doing worse than 45 MPG. High 50s could be the norm. The biggest issue is the emissions system.

2014 at best, I was waiting for the Cruze Eco diesel (late 2013 they say). The VW cam pissed me off to the point I was done waiting. The whole reason I went to VW was due to GM dumping their plans in 2003 for diesel engines in cars for the US. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again.

I can't totally blame GM. I wish we would stop exporting high grade diesel fuel to the EU. But, I guess they make too much money. We get stuck with the 40 cetane swill.

As far as diesel goes, I would get a manual and not worry about downshifting in 6th.

@ 6lbs/gal it's almost 4 full-sized adults along for the ride everywhere you go. :/
(Not to mention the condensation building up getting ready to cause havoc. Though I'm sure it's good for certain things)

Only 900? You need more mods than just a programmer. Our diesel trucks are freaking monsters. I went with a regular cab 4x4 Ford F-250. I wanted the lighest truck I could get to get the best mileage out of it. Has a gooseneck hitch. 6100 pound truck and I can tow 22,000 pounds. Now i just need something to tow. Hey next Sonic meet I'll get a trailer and pick you all up and take you all on the trailer. Higher MPG for all!

BTW, with that kind of tank you better be providing in-transit refuelling for the big rigs. Just pull up along side, extend the boom, and drop in 20 or 30 gallons to keep them going.

And I have 100hp injectors spool assist tune on engine and tranny. And the normal exhaust and intake i avg 22-23 mpg and I'm guessing its about 500hp and 900lb of torque I could be wrong never dynoed it and if need to pull more then 30k I have a fl60 freightliner with a maxed out 8.3 Cummins

Awesome. Best MPG I ever got was like 21. I guess the Cummins really is better for highway cruising. I bought the 07 F-250 because it was my cousin's dealer and he looked it over and it had only 19k miles. Last of the diesels before all the emissions crap.
