are you sure the rs grill is wider? it looks to be the same to me in relation to the headlights. i think it only looks wider because of the lack of the bumper cover and possibly the lens used to the the photos you are looking at.

I agree. They both look to be about the same width as the top grill which appears to be the same on both cars.

I'm beginning to suspect you are right. The question remaining is wether the bar will reappear in the actual production of the RS. If not, an OEM grill swap will be the easy ticket.

Using these two photos as reference you can easily see a change in the shape of the lower half of the bottom grille.

I can easily see that pic #2 was shot with a wide angle lens, while #1 was not.

Regardless you can still see the grille is shaped different. More rectangular, less of a point at the bottom center.

P.S. Eric, what type of grill mesh did you order? i thought about trying this mod myself, but sort of chickened out. Have you considered the effects on cooling and aero?

Same grill, top picture is just a render from gm... Picture of my car has a similar wideangle lens to the picture of the plastic removed.

The upper corners of the RS grill look to be more pointed, while "our" grills are more rounded. I also agree that the RS grill looks to have less of a point in the lower middle, regardless of the lens used to photograph it.

Sorry for not seeing this. Just steel mesh. Nothing special.

I expect increased cooling and drag, but I'm not really concerned with either.

Logically they wouldnt make the lower grill shaped different, cause it would cost so much more to make a whole different bumper cover just for the RS.

And what about the Ricky Carmichael edition, it doesnt have the bar either. Still looks to be the same bumper otherwise (same fog lights etc).

It is a whole different bumper cover for the RS. The discussion has become whether or not the size and shape of the RS grill is the same.

May not look like it, but it is. It's been confirmed in multiple articles about the RS in motor trend and car & driver. The lower corners have softer curves and there are accents around the larger fog light openings. I personally don't like the changes.

they made different seats, fog lights and other parts for the rs, how much did that cost? why wouldnt they make a different bumper?
