Now I can't get the trans case to split from the motor.

I did the initial install in about 4.5 hrs. Something was binding the input shaft of the trans, because every time I let the clutch out the engine came to a dead stop, even in neutral.

Talked to Clucthmasters and he said to pull it apart to inspect the issue.

So, I had it right back open, with the subframe out in like 45min. I'll be a pro by the time this is all sorted out.

But the new issue is I can't get the trans to separate from the motor. Pried, wiggled, pried, and wiggled. It only comes apart about 3/8". I suspect the clutch disc splines are locked with the input shaft splines.

Once frustration started kicking in and the 4 foot prybars made a short appearance, I decided it was best to back off and start with a fresh attitude tomorrow.

I imagine when I do get it apart, the clutch disc may be damaged beyond use, in which case ill have to rush order another one.:blankface:

Oh well, I'm taking it surprisingly well because this ain't my first rodeo and I know I'll get it figured out.

I suspect this is what happened. If you didn't push the clutch to hard it might be ok. Think positive, it is a beefy clutch. I am pulling for you.

I won't know for sure until I get the trans unit out, which is the major obstacle right now, but I believe the original issue had to do with the input shaft binding for some reason.

The clutch/flywheel operated fine, no noise, no vibrations, but the moment the clutch starts to engage the input shaft. BAMMM. dead stop stall. Even in neutral.

I just hope I can get the trans separated without destroying it or the new clutch in the process. Then I'll know exactly what the problem is.opcorn:

I'm doing mine for free and sober, and even though I caught a snag, I've enjoyed every minute of it.

I think derp is more then capable seeing that he grew up in a trans shop. I look forward to your progress today, hopefully you get it split and find no damage.

I don't remember the trick to this trade fully, but it just popped into my head.

It might be an alignment issue. Try using a large rubber mallet or wood block to knock it into alignment. You might have to mate them again and slowly back off while tapping. Moving the internals can help too.

I did this years ago and do not remember all the tricks but that is the core. I am sure it is online somewhere too.

Had to drill a hole in the bell housing to access the pressure plate bolts and undo them.

Then the trans came right out.

It appears that the center hub of the clutch disc is too long, and caused it to bind on the trans case.
I sent CM a picture and he's trying to sort it out right now.

Ha! Clutchmasters owes me another clutch and flywheel.
The put the "flywheel side" sticker on the wrong side of the clutch disc.
I thought it seemed funny, but figured I should trust what they say.
Meanwhile, after 2 R&R, I am now an M32 expert installer.
