This is only a partial answer, but it looks like the Wavetrac can be purchased direct from the manufacturer for the measly sum of $995: Wavetrac® Differentials - Application List

Regarding the Quaife, you can purchase model QDF25B (Vauxhall Astra VXR M32) for $1,081.50.
Additionally, according to http://www.quaifelsd.com/where2buy.aspx there is a Quaife authorized distributor fairly close to you in Fremont:

Ahh, good stuff.

The VXR guy said quaiffe is cheaper. But maybe it's a quality difference.
Or it costs them more to ship a wavetrac over there.

I spoke to 34 Motorsport and he says the wavetrac is vastly superior, and that they also sell them.

Says he can get one within 2 days

Question for Laborsmith: what's the p/n on the diff carrier bearings?

The p/n is not on my receipt, just the name of the part and the price.

I remember that the part was located at a parts supplier in Memphis; my impression is the supplier specializes in parts for imports.

Wavetrac is considered to be a superior product and is an upgrade option for the Hammerhead.

The rep simply said that it can handle more power and abuse. And that the quaife wouldn't likely last as long.

@Labor, how do I begin my search for the bearings? Do you have a number to the place where you found yours? Or to the guy who knows the place to call?

Good price. Lowest I have seen Wavetrac for the M32 is $895 and that was a X-Mas sale.

If the Memphis people have them and can ship Monday you should have them by the end of the week.

I don't know if the differential is common between the F17 and M32.
It is very possible.

have you had luck finding gm parts with that #? I looked it up the other day and could find nothing but links to ebay(UK) listings and vauxhall forums. Seemed like it was not a gm parts # per se, but rather specific to another distributor.

Based on what my installer told me, this is not a GM part.

The M32 seems to be a popular transmission in that about the only European manufacturer not using it is Ford.

Timken is the mfg'er of the bearings.

They are also used on Alfa's. so they may be an Alfa p/n.
