what's needed for over 250WHP

So... I know i won't be able to do this for 5 years (just bought my sonic) BUT this is a good thread for those looking at doing big numbers...

I know with the trifecta tune, and the E85 conversion with an exhaust and intake the sonic can make around 250WHp... Now the question to ask is....

how much psi can the engine/tranny handle? has anyone found out yet? I am very interested because when my warranty is up a new clutch is going in with the meth kit and Probably some nitrous.

Just curious if anyone has even done anything like this yet?opcorn:

dude unless u got a dyno sheet, a tune, exhaust and a nickname for some 100 octane isn't gonna make 250 to the wheels .. lol
and I personally don't like nitrous because youll find yourself re building your motor, again and again

well 138 stock HP + 10HP (exhaust) + 5-6hp (intake) + 48hp (trifecta tune) + 52HP (Ethanol kit) + whatever jet size you want doesn't that equal 253hp? sorry guess i should've just put HP not WHP... but still is that not accurate estimates? and i know it needs to be dyno proven lol.

I didn't really know u had a choice in jet sizes, however in 5 years I predict there will be pages of parts for these cars, cuz they are still fairly new, but I guarantee GM's "138" was measured at the crank or seomthing deff not the wheels, I bet with ur mods ur taklin youll be hovering around 200 anyways tho
but then again I am still learning myself

i dont think anyone has pushed the engine to the limits yet, but we do know the trans, or at least the input shaft will fail around 220-240hp with axle hop. the engines appear to holding just fine on thier way up to the 250 crank hp mark. and we know the clutch will not last long past 220ish hp

so with some solid engine trans and subframe mounts, a good e85 tune, intake, exhaust, clutch, and maybe a new compressor on the turbo you can make the 250hp mark and do it with atleast some reliability. if we could get a new better input shaft and maybe some strait cut gears i think we could go past the 250 hp mark reliably

I don't think your engine is the weak point.... We as a comunitee will max out the turbo way before the engine. The tranny will break before the engine. Even the bolt on list for the car has not been filled. So the things to worry about now before getting to that number would be stronger transmission clutch and then bigger turbo. Injector duty cycle is something to watch and then wait for the aftermarket to showbup and add parts

With the amount of money someones going to put into the car combined with the fact it probably won't be reliable, why not just forget the Sonic and buy a Golf R if that is what you want?
270HP at the crank and AWD right from the factory and will probably be pretty easily had used for a good price in the near future. I know there are guys (and girls) here who do the mods and work to their cars because its a hobby to them and they enjoy doing it. That is different and I 100% respect that and there are many on here who do a lot of cool stuff to their cars. But dumping money into it and having other guys do the work because you want it to be something its not is different. The end result will be a large cost for something that is half baked.



On another note, is the fuel pump on the Sonic electric in the tank or mechanical bolted to the engine?

well i wouldn't be dumping money into it, I know the engine mechanic personally so not too much money if at all will be forked out.

The input shaft failing was speculation on my part. It turned out to be broken clutch disc, which behave exactly like a broken input shaft.

The easy catch all answer to the making over 250+ whp is that an aftermarket turbo will be required. The stock one chokes out at about 220 whp.

A fast Golf, WRX or Evo is not unique. It came that way.

Most of the fun is building up a car that will be underestimated by the obvious sportscar owners and catching them off gaurd.

stock injectors are at 100% duty cycle with just a tune.

You have to if you want to change turbos.

The stock one is built into the stock manifold.
