what's needed for over 250WHP

I like monkeying around with the Sonic to see what it can do. I love using it as a daily driver, and run errands for my friends all the time because I genuinely enjoy driving it and will take any excuse. Half the mods I've done myself, and half I've paid for a mechanic to do because they were clearly beyond my capabilities... but even then I ended up hanging out, learning, and looking stuff up because most of it was "never done that before" stuff for him as well.

I don't like the Golf, and I wouldn't have had any of that fun tooling it up, and I'd feel no real pride of ownership if I had one... and I'd be more out of pocket on the thing than I am on my little modded up Sonic.

Also, the food off my George Foreman Grill is delicious. I wonder if I can mount one in my Sonic... lots of room up on that extended dash!

I installed a bleed on the line to my wastegate actuator to make 10 more psi this weekend. Then I turned a little screw on my fuel pressure regulator while making a few WOT runs until I got my wideband A/F meter read 11.3:1. TADA! 300whp.


Then I parked that car, hopped in my Sonic, and went to visit my mom for mothers day.

You can build a 9s Geo Metro. You can buy and chip a Volkswagon GTi. You can buy a used WRX, SRT-4, or maybe an S4 for a reasonable amount.

Problem? You would be driving a Geo Metro. You would be driving a Volkswagon GTi. You would be driving a WRX, SRT-4 or maybe an S4.

Now, the hate for the Sonic is understandable. I'll admit, our community really expects a lot from a car built by the company that brought us the (pukes a little in mouth) Aveo.

But the hate for those other cars is justified. It just is. Don't ask me why. If you do, you're using logic, and I don't f*cking potato that Tuesday.

230hp and 47MPG? Sounds like a European rating that has been converted over poorly or not at all.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I think our Sonics are capable of those figures after modifications. Volkswagen will definitely charge their price for it though.

I'd be surprised to see a Sonic modded to produce 230HP also pull off an EPA rating of 47mpg highway.


I could be wrong I suppose. Years ago I thought 23MPG was great for a car.
I wonder how that turbo hybrid they are advertising is to drive.

Well not at the same time silly. I would also be surprised if the Farfüknugget got 47mpg while making 230hp. When you're hypermiling, you're not hitting peak power.

I could make 240HP in my Sonic and then switch to 91 premium and hypermile my way into 40 mpg (with the MZ4:sadbanana. I know that's not 47mpg nor really the same thing, because of fuel changes, but it's a roundabout example of my point.

You knew what I meant.
A car capable of producing 230HP also being able to pull off 47mpg (not at the same time) is pretty damn impressive. I think the GolfR is 250 or 270hp depending on who you ask and that gets awful mileage. Perhaps just from the AWD?

I actually read it twice because the first time I kinda just skimmed over it, then paused and went back.
