I bought the hatchback over the sedan because it is more convenient and more energy efficient.
With the Hatchback, you can just call it a "Hatch". rather than the whole Hatchback thing. That's more convenient.
With the Sedan, you can't just call it a "SED". You have to say "SED-AN", using two syllables instead of one, making me use more of my energy and proving it's less efficient.
Hatch FTW!!!
Seriously though. I can stuff 8 18 gallon plastic bins in the back of the hatch with room for more Stuff. No, I can't see out the back, but that's what the side mirrors are for.
I also like the looks more.
I was downsizing from a Jeep, where I carried larger things and always had the rear seats down in that as well. I also liked the fact the back is flat across the downed backseats. I really hated the Hatch version of the Hyundai Accent or similar ones. It was cheaper, but the back door was 1/2 way up the rear end. I don't consider that a real hatch. It wasn't flat at the opening. Plus it was narrower. This hatch is perfect for my needs.
Now, if I still had a ton of kids to haul around. I would have hated how shallow the rear area of the hatch was. I'd probably have just added a roof rack. If it was as long as the Sedan, and added that rear area, that would have been great. But it would probably look ugly and be heavy and less agile. I LOVE to drive it like a sports car, even filled.
I definitely can see the convenience of the Sedan for a family needing the rear seats AND storage more than I do. And how often do people really need to move large things? That's what friends with trucks are for. If I wanted it all, I would have gotten a new Jeep Cherokee, but at double the payments and 1/2 the gas savings.
But I still do carry larger things. So, the Sedan just wouldn't work for me. I wouldn't want to trash the back seats putting stuff on them. I like them down, and not having to really juggle to get a lot of bigger things to fit.
Plus, as I said. I prefer the looks.
No one's going to really win this battle

I guess that's why they made both.
