I like it... looks factory.

I saw that product a while back but I was hesitant for a permanent solution that involved drilling into the roof with only sheet metal (no re-enforced mount points).

My sentiments exactly! The company that installed it called Perrycraft because there was a question on whether the racks would clear the drain pan that's associated with the factory sunroof. After careful checking, Perrycraft said it would. :banana:

If you've noticed in one of my photos, the rails go well behind the antenna. I asked why and they told me because that's where the re-enforced mounts are on the roof. The rack is rated at 180LBS and they had to make sure it was drilled into the strongest points.

I definitely wanted a professional installing this and I agree… it looks (and feels solid), like a factory job. I was also concerned about water seepage and they've guaranteed that it won't leak. After my trip (and several rainstorms), I haven't seen any. I'm very happy with it! :banana:

Hey everyone, I know i'm bringing back a kind of old thread..But I wanted to just ask my question here rather than make a new thread... I was wondering if everyone could state what rack they had and how high it sits above the roof.

In case anyone cares, I emailed Thule about their Sonic application and they said they wont be making a roof system for the Sonic.

This kind of bums me out but I guess I'll find another way.

Yakima was contacted and told me they have had so much interest in a roof rack from Sonic owners that they are about to begin measurements for a system for sonic....finally! He said it may be till spring or summer 2013 before we are able to buy it but said it def looks like it will happen.

Thank you for contacting us at Thule! Unfortunately the roof of the Sonic does not allow for a fit, it is unclear if it is the strength of the roof itself or the way the door line and roof line meet that does not allow for a fit. In our guide it shows that our Fit Technician has attempted to fit this vehicle and has deemed it a "No-Fit". The Sonic does allow for a number of Thule rear trunk mounted bike carriers and if you are able to mount a hitch to your vehicle, one of our hitch mounted bike carriers can be mounted with the Tram ski carrier.

Thank you for the email. Unfortunately we do not have a fit for the roofline of this car. After extensive testing by our engineers, the car is deemed a no fit due to the fact that there is no safe place to attach the rack to the roofline of the vehicle. If you have a hitch, you may be able to use a hitch mounted carrier with a ski/snowboard adapter. Thank you for the inquiry and have a great day.

It's likely one of those OEM things. The paperwork for my GM racks I purchased with the Sonic were undoubtedly Swedish.

Well hopefully a few of us emailing them will get them movin. In the meantime I think I'll be looking into a rhino rack and a thule fairing.

Can anybody tell me how their roof system is holding up for them? The pictures look like it has a flimsy little piece of metal holding it on the roof and I don't want my sh*t flying off on the freeway.

I don't think anyone knows yet, but then again I don't think they changed the roof line.

I just got in the gm rack, going to put on tomorrow, my Parts guy said it doesn't show the RS being compatible with this part, but we shall see. I'll post pics up soon if it does fit. Also, does anyone know what company makes a snow board holder or bike holder for the gm rack? thanks.

I haven't tried any on my GM rack. However, I have a Thule Sidearm tray currently installed. Thule always send a slew of hardware to get the job done. In theory, Thule's Universal Pull Top, Flat Top, or Snowboard Carrier should be compatible.

My summary of this thread

Read through this entire thread and I am no further along than when I started haha

So NO thule rack but they make it for GM, obviously GM paid a good bit of money for exclusive rights. If that contract has an expiration date the engineers at Thule will magically have it figured it out and they will tweak it and swell it with THULE on it.

Supply and demand I have no idea how Yakima doesnt get there backside in gear faster and put a rack, with there known name it would undoubtedly be the go to rack for most of us I am sure. We have request and obviously are intending on spending money and you cant get a company to move...huh with a bad economy you would think theyd move asap.

Rhino rack the new kids on the block obviously enjoy making money. there racks seem of quality and solely for the go get um attitude is most likely the way I will go. I support a company that moves rapdily for a product in demand, years ago the parts were available before the cars were lol

I will most likely go with THULE fairing even though I think they shouldnt get a logo on my sonic since they arent helping with the rack situation. I will have a graphic of some kind made up to cover the logo.

i have two yakima front loaders that will go on the rhino rack. I will post pics when its all assembled and on the Sonic.
