I have found OEM filters are the best choice for any car. Aftermarket filter manufacturers will use the "will fit" attitude. Auto manufacturers design their filters with specific guidelines like micron ratings (size of holes in filter media), surface area of filter media, and some including GM have check valves to keep the pump primed so the engine gets lubed quicker at start up. Aftermarket companies especially fram and Baldwin (I think Baldwin makes car quest and jiffy lube filters) use "will fit" they have the basic size and correct thread so it will fit. It doesn't matter what's inside.
As a mechanic I'm tired of fixing everyone else's stuff so I hate working on my own. I would never by a car from a mechanic. But I always use OEM filters and synthetic oil. My old Tahoe has 202k did the oil changes at 10-15k still going great.
