It really is a tough call. But its safety thats pushing me over to the side of the Sonic. If not for safety I would get the Fit.
What was your deciding factor?
Since I'm bored on a Sunday afternoon in a "boot camp" style status, I'll do my own little write up
-Assembled in the good o' USA
-The Looks, very unique, have actually had many ask about and have liked the car, pictures don't do any vehicle justice.
-Great Financing @ 3% and low payments
-The Seats - fit me perfectly and encourage quick turns, armrest is rarely used, but that is to be expected from a stick car anyway.
-Big for a Small car, I like that actually feels pretty solid and the added weight can only help in inclement weather
-Think I might be stuck GM for life
I had a great time once in a Mini Cooper S, it opened my mind to the possibility of owning a small car one day.
The 2011 Versa was another vehicle I rode in a few times, liked it but wasn't impressed with the features that came "standard" and the radio felt cheap but had decent sound.
Seeing that first digit of the vin number as 1G is always pleasing. 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico just as an FYI
It was mostly the looks, and I've always liked GM stuff, this is my first Chevrolet after having gown up around many of the other divisions....how I go from learning to drive on a 98' Deville to 5 Speed Sonic I don't know.
This is my first new vehicle, stripped down w/o many options, but honestly I kinda like that and the 5 speed is fun to row through. The Test drive and gauge cluster had me sold. There's also cheaper ways to get to the Turbo motor than the C&D article suggests but I am happy with the 1.8L on my 1LS.
I happened to also get great financing, 3% through Marine Federal Credit Union, this is a military town so the dealer actually did the leg work on that for me, but payments right where I wanted them to be.
Have a number in mind and dealers will do their damnedest to get your payments what you want to pay per month. I had the leverage of having the thought in my head "well if I leave with my truck it wont be the worst thing in the world"
Sometimes its better to go that route than focus simply on bottom line price, because that is what you'll actually be paying. Funny thing is I was actually looking at a used Impala SS but price wasn't right and a little black Sonic Sedan caught my eye.
I've had friends involved in dealerships and repair shops, right now they have all told me reliability is on the bottom of shoppers lists because warranties are so good, and the cars from almost all makes are top notch, each has its own flaw but for the most part, throw a dart at the board and you can pick something that will now last. For the long term buyer, Chevy parts simply cost less not because of quality but because of shared component and architecture across such a broad line. Same thing with most Suburus "all in the family" but being at the other end with a such a small niche line.
The Sonic and Fit, in my opinion, the start of a change from small car = cheap econo box to quality in a small package. BMW 1 series shows that there is a market for better small cars....DO NOT take this as me comparing these to a BMW! Remember, small cars have been a staple in Europe for some time, its only now that the US has finally opened its eyes that these can actually be good, and the good ones are coming here.
