I'm out there making turbo noises only to be walked by a soccer mom in her V6 Odyssey while she's texting on her phone and doesn't even see me. I'm flippin' trying to race over here but she only cares about getting her Starbucks. The audacity of some people!

Bottom line, if the scoop isn't functional, don't F****** put it on the car.

It DOES look cool on the transformers car.
If you wanna do it, go for it. Almost everyone on the planet will know it's not functional, 95% of those people will judge you on it, and 100% of the people who see it really won't matter anyway if YOU are happy.
That said, I wouldn't do it. IF you go through with it, it's got to be SPOT ON. It cannot be shabby in any way. Do it to look as if it came from the factory that way, or really study the way they are done on real rally cars and copy that to a T. At least you'll get a little respect for doing a quality job.
Who knows, maybe you can put on a rear disc swap big brakes kit and use the roof scoop to pipe in fresh air to cool your brakes

Huh? Are you saying you want the air to pass through the scoop to come out the other side and create downforce? So it won't act like a scoop nor a spoiler?
Just because air is channeled somewhere or just because you buy a park bench and stick it on the truck doesn't mean that there's downforce created. It just means that you just stuck a (questionable) accessory onto your car.
Let's pretend you have a functioning wing/spoiler/whateveryouwannacallit. You must be going fast enough for it to work, for enough air to pass over it with enough force. Let's take a Mitsu Evo for example. It's widely known that it takes speeds of over 100 for that wing on the back of the car to have any affect. That wing negates some (not all) of the lift generated by the natural shape of the car but doesn't provide. Dedicated race cars can generate pressures that will far exceed that to improve traction as higher speed is attained.
Sonic isn't a race car, you don't drive fast enough for any aero gear to actually work. Save your money and drop this idea. People will only laugh.
Enough talk already. Please install a roof scoop on your Sonic.
