I see more of the ford fiesta in my opinion that is so not a dart looking car. The Dart actually looks nice imo thats a fiesta with old mercedes tail lights and sonic body lines.
Is this the new 2016 Sonic?

My wife and I realize it's the Chinese version of a Sonic, but if this design comes to these shores, we're not interested in this version.
The existing design IS different than what else is out there-its distinctiveness makes up a heck a lot of its appeal!
I agree with the request for changing gauges and adding an engine temp gauge. I'd also like to see a battery gauge.

The next restyling will look something like this. The headlights are going away soon. Get used to change.

Makes the 1st generation Sonic's the collectors items then!
But, isn't our Sonic made in Detroit, so any changes overseas DON'T have to be here. Remember, Asia is a big enough market to have it's own design...
It's not a horrible front end, it's just lost the one thing which gave it pizzazz... and don't forget guys, you can mod anything
here's it lowered, with 18's
Do we have that instrument panel hump around the steering wheel too?... Redesign inside too?

It isn't that this design looks bad to me, it just doesn't look like anything. Let's face it, there isn't all that much unique about our cars stylistically. They are two box hatchbacks. They have decent proportions and aren't designed to look like an insect like nearly every other car on the road, but they aren't exceptionally unique.
Except the front end.
That is an exceptional design these days. This new design, while not offensive (it still looks like a decently proportioned, three box, economy car) seems to me to lose much of what makes the Sonic unique.
Most people who buy the Sonic buy it because of price. So if the design becomes more generic I doubt it will affect sales. But I (and I suspect a number of others on this forum) purchase cars with a number of other factors in mind. Aesthetics is one of them, and this new design almost completely eliminates the one distinctive feature the car has. The current look with the classic and aggressive headlights makes up for the cheaper interior materials, and substandard seats in my view. If they remove the distinctiveness, those other defects become more noticeable and I start to wonder whether a different car would offer me a better experience.
Oh, I'll get used to change alright. Not only will I wind up with different front headlights, I might well have a completely different logo on the steering wheel as well

Looks better but... it doesn't stand out anymore.
Nice catch on the interior though! Hadn't noticed that. I for one wouldn't mind a more conventional instrument panel. Not that I actually dislike the current one (in fact, I kind of disliked it at first, but the functionality of it has really won me over). But that said, a more conventional one like in the rest of GM's lineup would actually seem more attractive to me.

I think that white hatch looks fine. Now, there are two caveats of this front end working well:
- LED headlights (not to be confused with LED running lights). They would look phenomenal with this front end combined with 17" factory wheels would make the car look above it's class.
- as long as they do NOT put single-bulb LED running lights surrounding the headlight. Think new Sentra and GTI. To me, a string of LED running lights look cheap. A fluid, singular led strip is much better.
Examples:
BAD:
GOOD!

A quick google indicates a lot of the new LED headlights require replacing then entire headlight when the LED(s) go bad. While they may look cool and light the road nicely I
know I would end up driving around with one LED strip partially out because I couldn't afford to replace the entire headlamp over a portion of the strip being out.

I like the current Sonic front end as well, but I didn't buy it for that. I bought it because it was a great all around car, and it was a Chevrolet. The fact that it was built in Orion Township, Michigan was the final layer on the cake.

The additional gauges tell me that I might have a problem, what system is involved and means I don't have to spend $50 at the mechanic's to clear the engine trouble light. I don't need a computer printout, just the gauges!
