you do like to blow trannys.
Is it possible to remove the oil pan without removing the engine?
Yes, but I believe the crank pulley needs to come off, and there are two elusive bolts that fasten it from the top.
No need to take the crank pulley off. I'm going to bet that it will be fun trying to scrape all the sealant off the block with it in the car. But likely just as fun as trying to get the transmission and engine bolted back up by yourself.
Preloader, what do you think the chances are of being able to mark the timing chain and gears to be able to reassemble without the tool that GM uses?
The cam positioners is what worries me. I don't know if they are preloaded, or just rest static until activated with oil pressure.
I've seen multiple pictures where the the cams were removed from the cam drums, leaving the drums, and chain in place. That seems ideal.
You could always do the zip tie trick Ive done it on other chain drive engines
There is a spring-loaded pin for "parked" position, along with an assist spring that helps move the cam toward park position. The phaser should be "locked" in park position when the engine is off, or no phase angle is requested.
I'll try to get you some photos later.
I would call it an outlet.
I believe it is a 3" V-band flange. But I'll try to confirm it within the next few days.
