Real world worst tank 37.7 MPG
The most I have gotten out of a tank was 43.5 per mpg est of computer I regularly get 40 and above. I know that this would have never been possible in my 20's (the largest demographic of owners on this site )
The 1.4 has so much torque that it is easy to drive in a high gear. I am usually in 6th around town...anything above 38 mph.
I have always driven small cars...ya even when I weighed 320 (should have seen the looks when I got out of my geo metro !!) I have been driving standard since I was 12. I want to get great mileage cuz I drive a lot...
I do drive 70-75 regularly on the highway...I think I am so used to shifting around 2000 rpm it is just second nature.
My car is an early run 2012 sedan...I might have the belly pan ...will have to check

How are people finding the 6-speed auto on the turbo? That's what I have on order. I was going to go for the manual, but then saw all the problems with M32 transmissions, and besides, being in the Chicago area, getting a manual with any decent options means having one ordered from a long way out of state; the assumption here is that no-one drives a stick unless they have to. The 6-speed auto test drove very nicely; I hope the slightly shorter 5th and 6th gears don't come back to haunt me.

With some of the worst gas and gas prices in the states (california) I am quite happy with my 36mpg with Los Angeles traffic, 70-80mph speeds on the highway, and the A/C on 75% of the time. I made that same trek in my 01 Yukon denali for 2 years and averaged just under 14.5mpg so I guess it could be much worse! I was down to my last two bars on the fuel gauge and it took 35 dollars to fill up. My truck took 118 dollars to fill up, and both vehicles covered roughly the same amount of ground (Sonic-410 miles, Denali-440 miles) so I guess I should be happy w that!
I had a pic of the mileage I got today going into work, 37.7 mpg. It dropped to 34.7 on the way home, I used the AC for a while until the weather changed. I must have done something wrong or is there a rule on how many posts you have to do prior to being able to upload pics.

I am averaging 38.4 hand calculated. I have the 1.4 auto, I drive 70 miles to work round trip daily with about 20% of that city driving. 3 out of 7 of my last fill ups have been above 40mpg.
I found 87 octane with no ethanol in it for the price of mid grade gas. The lack of ethanol seems to make a noticable difference. I am guessing that with the extra cost of the 87 octane no ETOH I am breaking even as far as cost goes but am driving 30 some odd miles which means an extra trip to work or hopefully a trip home instead.
My best tank so far was 42.5 and that was 93 octane no ethanol, the price difference at this point does not make it economically feasable to do all the time.
I am going to be doing all my mods with fuel economy in mind, if I manage to throw a few more horses under the hood while I am at it I guess I wont be complaining.
I wish that there was a place close by that sold gas without ethonal so I could try it in my car. I know of one place only around here and it usually costs about .40 more than regular gas, a little over 10% more. It would have to increase my mileage enough to make it worth while. I had a truck that was flex fuel so I thought I would try E85 and my gas mileage dropped over 33%. I never used it again, E85 was only 10% cheaper than regular gas.
I am trying to increase my mileage by making upgrades geared towards that. When I get new tires I am thinking of 195/60/16 to reduce the width and increase the diameter a little bit.

Congrats thats awesome. Best ive got in my rs is 34mpg but that was at 75mph with ac on. Car only has 500 miles on it I hope it will go up with more miles

A little mileage report so far; dealer delivery (it had to be brought from 330 miles away, which the dealer did by swapping a vehicle with another, so it was driven rather than transported) followed by my pickup (dealership through a mess of city traffic with flooding delays and road construction, followed by 50 miles of 45mph tollway construction speed limit, followed by about 30 miles of 80mph, followed by a lot of stretches of steady speeds ranging from 60 to 75, most of it in heavy rain, yielded 37.1mpg, up to about 720 miles on the clock. Since then I've 39 mpg on one tank over about 250 miles, and then about 38 on a top-off tank that includes quite a few short hops. This last round includes climbing a hill with a 30 percent grade, which the car elected to do without downshifting. Quite impressive, although it makes me more inclined to override with the paddle shifters on hilly roads.
It does not seem to be able to get 40mpg at 70mph . . . so far. It clearly does get that at a steady 65. Most of these numbers are with air conditioning on.
How long does it take for the mileage to settle out? Part of the problem is so much gas in the Midwest is addled with ethanol and a lot of it is off-brand too and you wonder about the consistency of the quality.

The estimates I did regarding 93 Octane concluded that for every 10 cents per gallon I'd pay for gas, I would break even if I gained about 1 mpg. I noticed about a 2-3 mpg increase switching to 93 octane, which is about 25 cents more, so I concluded it's about a break even just in terms of the gas cost.
Does anyone else have similar rules of thumb?

I do the same thing, it has to be cost effective to buy gas other than regular and it is almost never worth it.
I compared the cost of gas and gas mileage when buying my Sonic, the dealer had a Smart car the was supposed to get 41 mpg. However it required premium gas which would not make it cheaper to operate. Not to mention that they are not very stable on the highway where most of my driving occurs.

I actually do choose to run 93 even if I can't prove there's a cost benefit. If nothing else, I can tell myself that I'm running cleaner emissions, but really I'm more confident in the quality of the gasoline. Maybe I shouldn't be but at least in my head that's what I think.
I drive 125 miles to and from work, I drive at 73 mph using my cruise control as much as possible. In the morning I usually get better gas mileage since I am not using the AC as I do going home. This week so far I am averaging 34.7 mpg. I did drive home 2 days at 75 mph and it did not appear to lower my mileage.
What is odd is that on Monday on the way to work I got 37.7 mpg.

The best I've gotten out of my LT 1.4T6M is 47-48 mpg according to the computer. That was driving between 35-45 in 5th/6th through Oak Lawn.
Highway I get about 36-42 depending on how nicely I drive... Usual speeds are 65-70 and up to 80 in some areas.
On a full tank of 92 octane, I've gone as far as 340 miles I believe. On 87 octane I've gotten slightly better mileage, but definitely less power. Could just be a psychological thing, though.

Yep, my mpg problem is because I live and work in Chicago and 90% of my driving is stop and go traffic, especially rush hour. It's 7.5 miles from my office to my house, and at 6pm it takes me easily an hour + to get home.
