Got 40 mpg on the highway

I get passed all the time, I am seeing more Prius's passing doing 80mph or more. I Gus's they think they can drive that fast because of the mileage those cars are supposed to get. I doubt if they are getting anywhere near what they think at those speeds, my car is probably getting better mileage.
I think my mpg could be becuase I use full synthetic oil, check my tire pressure on a regukar basis(I have an air compressor if needed) and use cruise control whenever possible.

Not hardly.
A 1930 Ford model A will get 30MPG @ 35MPG but as low as 16MPG @ 60MPH. Chances are you would find the Sonic hatch is likely more aerodynamic than 90% of cars manufactured in the 1980s and forget about before then.
I do believe the sedan is slightly better in this department, but you were also testing a handicapped 1.8 as well.

I wish my mileage was that good. What is summer gas?
I tried the mid-grade gas last week but I had to deviate from my normal week and decided to wait until this week to see if I saw an improvement.
The drive into work using regular gas gave me a best mpg of 37.7 driving to work and round trip home was 34.7 mpg. Today I drove to work and only got 36 mpg and by the time I got home I averaged 33.6 mpg. The conditions on both days were about the same, I only used the ac on the way home. My mileage actually seems to be worse with a higher grade of gas.
I attended a class on what type of gasoline to use on a motorcycle, the speaker explained that you should use the lowest level of gas that your engine can handle without you hearing any detonation or pings from the motor. I had been using premium and tried using mid-grade to see if it would really work. My bike started up easier and I actually could tell that it ran better as well as my mileage had increased. I understand that my methods were nowhere near scientific but what I learned in that class appears to still be true for cars as well as motorcycles. If you search online you can find explanations as to what type of gasoline to use in your car and why. For me, I am going back to regular gas next fillip.
Update: I filled up with regular gas this weekend, I drove to work and averaged 37.3 mpg and by the time I drove home averaged 34.9 mpg for 125 mile round trip. I drove at 73 mph in both directions on the highway using the same exact route to work and home. I use the ac only on the way home because it's cooler in the morning so that's why me mpgs are higher going to work. I know it s not scientific but leaves not doubt in my opinion that using regular gas works the best, at least for my car.

Here is a pic of my mileage after I drove to work this morning, it was combined city and highway(25% and 75%). It dropped on the way home, I used the ac and ran into a bit more traffic that normal, on the way to work I got 38.4 mpg and by the time I got home it dropped to 35.7 mpg.

All engines perform better after a proper break-in period.
40 mpg is awesome isn't it?!?!
Even on my worst week, I never spend more than $25 filling the car back up (from 1/4-1/2 empty)...
Imagine driving a Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado with a V8... $25 will get you just past "E"
I agree on that mileage. My pickup took at least two fillups a week at $50+ each time. I occasionally would drive my Vette to work because believe it or not even with a modded engine it still gets 30mpg on the highway.

New to yer forum...but not to Chevy. Own a guzzler and am considering my first Chevy car after I pay off the truck and park it for something more economical.
I have been looking (from afar) at the Sonic, as well as a couple other smaller vehicles (which I won't mention on this site since it is bad form to talk about other trucks on our Chevy/GMC truck site). This Sonic seems like a good alternative to the gas guzzler that I will not give up, but dislike driving around the Seattle area due to its size; mostly.
On the average, what type of mileages are y'all seeing after the break-in period for the LTZ 1.8 turbo? How zippy is that car in traffic? Is mileage that respective to the common driving practices?

I like my 1.4t auto LT. My display on the highway trip said 40.3 miles per gallon and the gas gage dropped one bar/unit after 40 miles on the trip display. But it was a hilly highway.
I average 37.5 to 39.5 on the display most weeks. I've seen 42-43 on a short highway trip to work.

Kinda sucks these aren't flexfuel well mine isn't at least i pay about 35 to fill up on premium and get about... 29 mpg, car has a total of about 4k miles on it and I'm semi-impressed with the MPG but hoping it can get better, how long did it take you to break your engine in? Seems I go through half tank like per day. If yours is man/sem-auto how early do you shift?
:blankface: I had a 2012 Chevy Sonic for 2 years and now have 2014. Unfortunately, I only drive VERY short trips--like less than half mile. I am retired and don't go too many places. My gas mileage this Winter has been steadily decreasing from 28.65 in October to 18.95 this week. I was sure hoping for more than that.

Just took my 2nd road trip with my 2015 LT 1.4L 6M. Approx 350 miles with 340 in 6th or neutral. Averaged 45.8 mpg overall. The outbound was 47.0 mpg. Cruise was set at 71mph. This bested the first trip average of 44.1 mpg.
