Thank you. Klutch SL5. Klutch doesn't make a wheel in our bolt pattern so these were redrilled among other things.

Well guys and gals we have run ourselves into a small snag withy the brake swap.

I received my calipers today, I ran to a parts store after work that had the pads, I get home take everything apart, it all matches. Start to reassemble and go to mount the bracket to the spindle and here I am at the snag.

Ole gm decided to make the bracket on our cars mount with a 12mm bolt, and then used a 14mm bolt on the encore........

For me this is not a big deal I plan on getting a drill bit to bore out the spindle mount tomorrow, for some of you this might be less than ideal. If this is done correctly you should be able to still get the swap accomplished.

I did get everything mocked up this will work as a feasible swap with the purchase of the brackets and a drill bit to bore out the mounts and 14mm bolts. I can't think of another way around this if anyone has any input please go ahead and post up your ideas.

I do plan on posting a "how to" in the dyi section when I get it all together tomorrow or Saturday.

What's the thread pitch? Reason I ask, is because I've noticed that often a helicoil repair kit will have you drill and tap up to the next size, and the install the insert into that. For example, an 8mm x 1.25 repair kit will have you drill and then tap the hole with a 10mm x 1.25 tap. If the thread pitch is the same, you may be able to screw 12mm x 1.75 a helicoil insert into the 14mm threaded holes in the bracket. That way you can use the stock hardware and no drilling is required.

I thought of that but idk how i feel about using a helicoil on the bracket like that. Maybe a threadcert but they are expensive as hell from my experience and hard to get. 14mmx2.0 by the way, thats what you asked for.

You know what, maybe a helicoil isnt such a bad idea. I work at a freaking parts store for heavens sake. So I'm going to get the helicoils and see what I can do I suppose. I will also call the tech line for helicoil and see what they say. If you can use them on head bolts why the hell not on a caliper bracket, right.

I have an idea. Instead of drilling out the hole for the 14mm bolt and putting in a helicoil, why don't we have a bracket made in the same fashion as the encore but for our bolt setup. The helicoil idea is a very good suggestion and would use it in a pinch unless you are uncomfortable with drilling and retapping the hole with an insert put in for the stock thread pitch.

Drilling is sounding like the best option, plus that way we'll be using the stronger 14mm bolts with the bigger brakes. Not that we would ever be pushing the limits of shearing off 12mm bolts, but still. Can't wait for my parts to hurry up and get here!
