Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

I have the 1.8 hach LT Auto and with just over 2200miles on her the average is 24 in town and 32 on the highway. Around the same amount we get in our 2010 Cobalt (2.2 Auto) I have had a high of 35 MPG in the Sonic driving on a 2lane road at around 50MPH but it drops down to 33 at 55 MPH

Trip to Grand Canyon last week had my best tank (hwy) at 28.7. Speed was around 75 mph average but a lot of 82 mph too. I should be able to do much better with just a bit of driving style change. At Prius driving level I would be in low 30s. MPG is all about control & I'm usually not . . . LOL !

summer roadtrip mileage

I was a little dissappointed, I didn't beat 40 mpg by much. I got 40.2 mpg. I was thinking I'd get 42-43 (I know that's a small difference, but I was trying to get better)

This weekend I drove up to VT for a mountain bike festival, 480 miles round trip. About 400 of that was highway trying to keep a 70 mph average. In CT and MA, with small hills, I just kept the cruise control at 70 mph. Once I hit the VT border and started climbing 'mountains', I slowed on the uphills to ~65-67 mph and on the downhills hit 75 mph to keep the average at 70 mph.
Other info:
87 octane Mobil fuel, 7-8% ethanol (measured with the ethanol test kit)
tire pressure at 40 psi
ambient temps ~80F
bicycle was inside, no bike rack

Eric, awesome mileage at 40 mph on flat and level. I thought Texas was where you drive 85 mph all the time?

I should have loaded up a second audio book on the ipod and averaged 60 mph and taken the extra 30 minutes of driving each way. I think I was actually doing pretty well...there were many bigger cars and SUVs passing me doing 80. They were probably getting 15 mpg...

I'm afraid you have missed the point. Have you bothered to read the thread above? I'm pretty sure we are all aware of the estimates printed on the window sticker of the new cars we recently purchased.

Just have used my 1.4 L turbo/manual for my 54 mile round trip commute. Combined city and highway with hills- I'm getting 38 mpg. Part of my drive in is in a 35 mph zone in a small town. I leave it in 6th (if I time the lights correctly) and hypermile thru town, turning just over 1000 rpm. The 1.4L w/ manual is a very driveable and torquey combo for fuel economy.

A more relevant average to post would be the numbers below the MPG numbers. It says something like, "these number are just an average. the expected range of mileage is 'blank.'"

There is a reason I stick to 60 on the highway. I know the 1.8 is only rated 35 but over a 700ish mile trip I averaged something like 43 mpg, including some city driving (30-40 miles).

7000 miles on 1.4 Turbo 6 spd hatch

I've been hand calculating my mileage - lowest tank was 35.6, taking it slow and easy I had one tank at 39.3. If I cruise around 67 in 65 zone on the highway and just drive normally around town with an occasional quick acceleration, I'm averaging around 37mpg.

Actual vs estimated mileage

I had been very pleased with my 'guessed' readout display mileage.
I have been seeing 35 to 38 mpg, With 700 miles on the 1.4T and Manual.
Actually, I fill the tank and see 31 to 33 mpg. My commuting driving only gets into 6th gear 5 - 10% of the trip, so that is a part of my experience. Frequent use of the AC looks like a 10% penalty, also. It seems that most of you are not seeing such a wide spread between the display and actual fuel consumption.

I could be wrong here, but I believe most members report the DIC average is usually in the range of 3-4 mpg or about 10% higher than actual calculations (miles divided by gallons). I know mine has been every fill-up thus far.

I've averaged 75 mph this week going to and from work. That's about 80+ highway and speed limits in the city and I averaged 40.37 mpg for the week. Not bad for hauling a$$
