Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

LT my max highway tank so far from Vegas to Ca was 380 miles. I filled up Friday morning and needed gas to next day after driving the coast.

My ave. speed on the hwy was 75-80 using the cruse control. Dash said 37.3. I am going again this weekend so if I remember, I will post it.

I'm a newbie. Have owned the 1.4 Turbo 6sp Hatchback for 6 days. I have 1151 miles on it, 200+ was on the odometer at time of purchase since they drove that far to fetch it for me. The mpg has been upsetting - and communication with my dealer just got me the standard reply about break-in yadda yadda. Okay here's my story.

1st tank (it wasn't empty yet, but we knew our trip would not afford us any better gas prices than in our hometown): On the 70 miles trip home from the dealer (all interstate with the CC set at 69 mph), the car said 41.2 mpg - we were ecstatic. But when we filled it up and did the paper/pencil version, we had only gotten 33.99 mpg. After that fill up we drove about 300 miles (most on highway). Computer reading was actually stuck at 38.1mpg for a half hour, so I was concerned. I finally just reset it and then I onstarred and they connected me to a dealer and I once again got the break-in doodah. When we filled the tank at our destination, the actual was 33.6 for that trip. We filled up there and then drove around the city for 2 days, adding about 70 city miles before our trip home. Upon filling up here, our paper/pencil calulation gave us 36.67mpg. The car computer said 40.2mpg. That now, at least, matches up with the 3-4 inflation that others of you have cited. More conscious coasting, but also found that there were times I thought I was in 6th, but only in 4th. Don't know how long, before I corrected, so that will have a negative impact on things.

Anyone else have issues with the computer just getting stuck. Anyone have to have software reloaded into the car (is that possible) or have your computer replaced?

I'd like to know more about how to access the on-star app and also the cutie fuelly deal that some of you use. If there is a topic that deals with how to get the most mileage out of the car - if someone could direct me there, that would be helpful.

It's exciting to see so much information being shared about these vehicles - but, on the other hand, it makes it really hard to "zero" in on what I most want to know at this time. Also, what is the trifecta tune??

Yeah, i don't believe the dash. And when I connect to onstar I get a different average life MPG. Although, I still think I'm getting very good gas mileage, just not what is stated. Anything above 30 and I'm freakin gold.

My first fill-up was 75% freeway and 25% city with a combined MPG of 35.4.

My computer is only about 1MPG off of the actual real world numbers. I am getting 32-33 MPG combined which I feel is pretty decent.

My first four tanks are 30 +/- 0.5 (paper and pencil) I'm amazed at how steady the mileage has been.

My last three tanks, the computer is telling me around 38mpg driving 50/50 highway/city. No idea how accurate that is though. On my previous cars, I was always able to top off the tank until the gas was visible at the top of the tube. That way, I could do some calculations and get a pretty accurate mpg reading each time I filled up. With the Sonic, I can't seem to get the fuel up to the top like I used to, so I haven't been able to test the mpg that way.

My last three tanks have been between 29-32 calculated and 33-36 off the DIC. Mine is consistantly off by about 4 mpg. This is pretty much 90% stop and go driving with a spirited spring every once in a while or when needed on a Trifecta perfomance tune (no cruise so now dual tune mode......).

We are on second tank getting around 32 hwy but only 24-26 around town in a 1.4 auto hatchback. Hopefully will see some improvement after a few more tanks and oil change. Still it's fun and a lot more power than anything else in it's class

Not bad so far!

I was supprised the DIC was off by 4 MPG, hopefully that will get better. Calculated was 38.3 MPG, DIC was 42.3. I was getting 22 MPG in my Grand Prix that I traded in. I am very happy with a 74% gain in MPG. That is great gas milage for a car this fun to drive.

Using 87 octane:

Fresno to Santa Cruz was 37.3 with the A/C set on 2. Caught in some stop and go traffic.
Santa Cruz to Fresno was 39.6 with the A/C set on 1 for half the trip, other half off, windows cracked open. Pretty impressed with the mpgs since I had a lot of fun rowing through the gears in the twisties testing the new springs!

I've got just over 1700 miles on my 2012 1.8L Manual Hatchback and am averaging 38.5 miles to the gallon. I drive 70% freeway however, but I'm very pleased with this economy. My previous car, a 2007 Civic coupe (manual 1.8L) averaged just under 35 mpg under the same conditions.

I've got around 3500 miles on the clock now and a lifetime average of 39.1 mpg on my 1.8L Manual. Gotta love it!

According to Fuelly I'm sitting at 30.2MPG average with just a bit less than 4000 miles and before my first oil change on my 1.8L 5-speed. My commute has been getting longer and I spend more time on the highway than on city streets, but I can't consider it highway driving as I usually sit in traffic jams or at least encounter highly variable speeds due to it being an urban interstate. I have also been using the A/C a lot. I can't say I'm anything but impressed with the mileage I've been getting so far. I've read that my MPG might go up after my first oil change, which I got on Monday, and I'm looking forward to seeing if that happens.

I have been mostly using premium for the fact that my engine feels smoother and is more responsive, especially with the A/C on. My MPG is the same or maybe even slightly worse but it is still more than worth the extra cost for me.

While the turbo could possibly pick up some MPG with a premium gas the 1.8 should see no difference at all. If your MPG went up it is more likely that the premium has a lower percentage of ethanol. Gas with less ethanol is a sure fire way to get better mileage and premium often does have less than the 87.

Took a trip to paris I'LL approx 3 hr each way mostly rural highway, some interstate and a lil town driving driving 70 to 80 cruise on got 37.8 mpg

Tank before that was mostly rural roads at 40mpg with a some 60ish interstate and bout 15 miles of city driving. 46.45 mpg (dic 51.4)

So far really happy with the car, I am alil disappointed in how hard it is to beat the epa est. (I could get 2mpg higher in my 07 sierra on an all interstate drive at 80-85mph). But at 40ish mpg its trivial lol.

Also no a/c, windows down, and limited idleing
