I mean I love my car and all, but all the small problems these cars have that cause big problems (even practically brand new) is scary af.

That’s what pushed me to go ahead and start modifying while under warranty. The WGA, the BPV, the coils, the PCV system. It’s all a ticking time bomb. I think the motor is a good starting point, but practically everything that’s bolted onto it needs improvement.
That reminds me, I did some testing on 87 octane. On the stock tune, the car behaves identically as far as I can tell. No worse on power or the amount of knock retard compared to 93 octane. I’m wondering if the ECU has a strategy that pulls timing with KR under certain conditions, even when the sensors hear no knock. The 2016+ Miatas are like that, so it’s not out of the question. Needless to say, I’m running 87 octane as long as I’m on the stock tune. There’s no real point in using anything better.
