Clinched is what I’ll be going with. The ML24 flares are a lost cause, and I understand. They’re very expensive, but looking at dozens of pictures of Sonics with flares, the ML24s are the only ones that don’t irritate me in one way or another. I’ll just have to spend some time and make the universal ones fit to my standards.

I’ve decided on the Clinched 3.9” Muscle flares. Trying to sort out the backspacing I’ll need with my Miros, and I think I have it. It’s going to be quite a ridiculous spacer, but I’ve found someone who makes them in the size I need. I’ll also be switching from the lowering springs with GMPP dampers to the AirREX air suspension.

Man you’re not kidding, 3.9” flares is gonna be one hell of a spacer lol, or get some deep dish wheels. That air ride is going to be sick. I mocked up some measurements a while back to hide the compressor in the spare tire slot with sound deadener and mount the tank below the removable trunk lid. Not too many air Sonics out there. I know some companies have released all-in-one kits where the compressor is built into the holding tank, so when it turns on you can’t even hear it. But they are $$$$.

This guy has clinched new school 2.7” and I think it looks SOOO good. I think he told me he runs 9.5 wides with a small spacer.

I chose the muscle flares because I think they have the best lines for the gen 2 RS stuff. I’ve looked at these things for hours on end before deciding. 100mm (3.9”) is the narrowest that they make in that line. If they made a 2.5-3”, I’d much prefer that. I’m starting with the shape that I like best and working it out from there though. Before it’s all said and done, I may be changing wheels entirely to better suit this setup. I love projects. :/

We had a 2012 Fiesta (non-ST). As long as you steer clear of the automatic transmission, they’re great little cars, but they’re just too little. The Sonic is kind of a weird size for the class. It’s in between the Fiesta and the Focus. It gives the economy of the Fiesta, and nearly the same space and utility as the Focus.

Once I’m able to get ~250whp, good tires, and a diff installed, I’d put it up against 99% of Fiesta STs in fun factor.

As of Tuesday, my order is sitting at 4150/4b00, which supposedly means it’s about to ship. I’m being told maybe next week or the week after, but nothing for certain. I’ve never ordered a car before, but this is pretty nerve wracking. I have all my stuff ready to go on it, need to do the spray wrap, plus I’m talking with people about a cam swap, fender flares, air suspension, etc. I already have the car built in my head, and I haven’t even seen it yet.

My car was invoiced today. I’ll have another status update tomorrow at 11AM to see where it actually is.

Other developments:
I ordered a set of stock cams and phasers to do some measuring and testing. If all goes as planned, I’ll send the intake cam to the machine shop to be modified so it will drop into the exhaust side. I’ve been talking with BNR about getting a tune developed for the upgrade. If it works out, this will be a super cheap and easy upgrade for anyone who’s upgrading their valve springs for a GTX14 or other turbo upgrade.

I installed my awesome eBay console armrest. Riding in style now. [emoji41]

Folks, I promise I’m not dead. I still haven’t received my car in 8 weeks. Even worse, I also can’t track it now because I went ahead and finalized the sale to get a 20% deal that expired on 10/1. I have no idea where the car is, and I don’t think I will until the dealership calls me and says it’s there. I’ve had plenty of time to think all my plans through at least. Maybe I’ll get it all right the first time.

I still haven’t gotten my car. I put in paperwork so that I could just go pick it up from the distribution center, but then the guy at the dealership who handles that got the flu. I’m still planning to start working on it as soon as I have it.
