It’s been a while, but the main update is that my GTX250 finally gave up after 50K miles of low to mid 20psi range. I pushed it hard and I’m happy with it holding up for 50K, but I decided to try the new ZZP BWv3 turbo this time around. I sent it out to Tim Novak for porting and I should have it back and ready to go on late this week. Here are some before and after shots of the porting that Tim took for me.

Al said the porting definitely helps. They picked up 30-40hp with compressor inlet cleanup, a 3” down pipe, and a custom CAI. I don’t know what the porting alone gained.

Couple questions. You said Tim Novak does the porting. Does he have a site or FB to reach out to? Do you think it's worth it on a stock turbo? Port job looks great and I'd say should be good for minimum of 10hp on stock turbo.

BTW what happened with the throttle body project? And what did you end up doing with the blown gtx250?

The GTX250 is still on the car, I’m just running it easily and with no WGA preload until I get the V3. As soon as it started smoking I laid off and checked the shaft play. It’s not horrible and is ok for just putting around. I don’t really have plans for it after it’s off, but I definitely want to make sure the new turbo fixes any issues I’m having before I decide. Tim ported his stock turbo and said he picked up about 10hp, so it should help. On FB you can get in touch with him by name or through his business FB page, Part Time Performance.

Thanks for sharing. Have you tested compression? Are your plugs fouled out with oil? I just ask as before I started to mod I had a cracked piston and blowing smoke but only with a load. It still ran fairly normal but with a bit rough idle. Since the cracked piston was a known manufacturer defect it was covered under warranty. I hope it's just the turbo as that's an easy fix. Let me know if you decide to sell the gtx250. Maybe worth having rebuilt if it's blown.

Compression is fine, fuel trims are fine, no knock, the car runs 100% outside of WOT. There was some oil getting on the bottoms of the plugs only, but that was from it going through the IC piping. No external oil leaks. There is some shaft play in the turbo and the car doesn’t use any oil as long as I keep it at about 50% throttle or less and RPM stays under about 4-4.5K. I’m 99% sure that the turbo is the problem and it was just starting to let go when I figured it out.

Dallas area. I haven’t been on this thread in a while, but I haven’t done much to it lately other than experiment with some PCV improvements.

Thank you. I need to catch up on this thread with the Sonic. I’m actually at the alignment shop today with it, but I haven’t been doing any exciting stuff with it lately. I’m switching to an AEM E85 fuel pump at the moment, did some PCV modifications to reduce crankcase pressure some more, and switched to ZZP for tuning since I plan to go with their cams in the future.

Would love to see/drive/ride along in an Intergrale. The new Supra’s can be polarizing. Wasn’t sure about them until I saw one in person. Stunning car.

Pretty much. ZZP definitely has quicker turnaround though, so that’s been nice.

I recommend finding a shop that will align the rear with washers. I got mine done and the stock toe in was horrendous at 7/16”. I had them 0 out the rear (as closely as possible using shims), -2° of camber all around, and 1/16 total toe out in front which helps turn in response a little. The car drives so much better, more responsively, quieter, and I’m sure it will be better on my tires. Better MPG too. Most of the change is due to getting all that toe in corrected in the rear.
