Encore to Sonic Front Brake Swap

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I am also looking for a brake upgrade. Will the Encore fix work on my 2013 Cruze?

Yeah I gathered as much. Thanks for your reply. Using stock GM parts is genius. I'm a long time fixer and this was well researched ad documented. Brackets, rotors, pads and a 14mm or 9/16 drill. Nice work to all who helped. Has anyone worked with the dust shield? On the street I'd like to keep something there.

I looked at a few other models of the splash shields but didn't see any that looked like a direct bolt on, at least as far as I could tell looking at the online part catalog drawings. I believe I looked at the Encore, Cruze diesel, and one or two others, they all looked really different.
I have to say that on days where it's raining pretty good out and I'm on the freeway where a lot of spray is being made, I can tell the front discs are getting wet now that they extend a little beyond the shield. After a half second of applying the brakes they dry and all is back to normal but that half second at 60 MPH is what, 44 feet?
I have come to leave a little extra following distance when it's raining hard, just to be safe.

Yes, I read every last page. I like to do my research too. It helps keep the stupid and the mistakes at bay. I'm too old for that anymore.

Wait, are the front disc brakes able to be used on the rear in order to convert from the drum brakes? Or is that wishful thinking?

You'll lose the parking brake if you use the old front rotors for the rear. Rear rotors have what looks like a drum brake on the inside for the parking brake shoe.

So if I were looking to do the Encore front brake swap, is there ANY part of the original front disc brake assembly that can be reused? You know, to cut down on cost since I'd probably want to get most of the parts new from GMpartsdirect.

One other thought/question. My stock 16" rims have weight strips on the inside of the barrel. When swapping out to the Encore set, are there clearance issues with these types of tire weights?

The only original front brake parts that can be repurposed are the 12mm bolts used to bolt on the caliper brackets. These can be used when converting from rear drum to rear disc.
CJCSonic has the 16" wheels, presumably with the stick on weights and it cleared. I think he said there was about a half inch from the caliper to the wheel so that is plenty of room for the weights.

You reuse the stock calipers. You need the encore carriers, but calipers are the same.

Oops, you are correct. I understood TheGreenDragon's question to mean "of the parts that get removed can any of them be reused converting to rear disc?" The stock calipers are not removed.

Sounds like no one is concerned about braking bias? May handle and brake funny with more stopping power up front....

Great safety point. I didn't see anything about swapping out the backs also and thought they should match in size. But I was purely thinking about aesthetics.
