Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

While the turbo could possibly pick up some MPG with a premium gas the 1.8 should see no difference at all. If your MPG went up it is more likely that the premium has a lower percentage of ethanol. Gas with less ethanol is a sure fire way to get better mileage and premium often does have less than the 87.

With the compression ratio the engine uses premium would be much better for it than regular.

I know how ethanol affects economy and the station i use told me that as far as they are aware all grades of fuel they dispense are the same ethanol content. It varies throughout the year, but they said that all grades are the same content at the same time.

1.8 auto locked in at about 59 mph clear highway i can get 46mpg but normal city highway everyday driving 28 to 32 mpg

At 5k miles, my MPG rating has peaked at 27. I'm a semi-aggressive driver, so I expect my number to be that low.

And coming from pumping a full 21-gallon tank in my camaro twice a week, 27mpg is really nothing to complain about lol

Real MPG

My MPG is calculated at 25 city, 34 hwy in a 1.4 turbo, automatic hatchback. I was hoping to see better city mileage as we drive with a moderatly light foot around town. Other than that we really like our little grocery getter/ sports car.

I don't do much city driving but my calculated hwy with a 1.8 auto is 37 average over 4k miles.

Last tank was 35.xx. my worst tank ever and I don't exactly know why seemed like an average non hypermiling tank (37-41 usually)
Oh well dic is at 52mpg so far so see how she does now

My wife says I drive like a grandpa now, she just doesn't get it.

haven't looked at all the post yet.... bought in jan. have 19,000 plus so far, 7500 for my oil changes.... average 47 plus mpg and a best of 50.17 caulated based on mostly highway miles(12 city 128 highway) ...140 a day 3rd day fill up at 411 miles on average. shifts at no more than 1500 rpm and cruise set at 63. lose 2 mpg in rain.:banana:aiming at 52 before making any modifications

Great MPGs! What model/engine/trans? Did you get a tune yet, or are you still stock? What was the majority of your driving like (highway/back roads/80/70/60)?

I want to get numbers like that too!

How do you drive? Cant tell you what you are doing wrong unless you tell us how you are driving. How are you tracking your consumption?

I have not had a tank below 30 even when it was an all "city" tank.

Maybe im just so new to this that I don't understand the question how do you drive. I have a 1.8 automatic. I drive city the whole time. And I just drive normally. I don't try to go fast. I just follow the pace of the city traffic. I am tracking the mileage using the dash. Right now. It's at 19.6 mpg life. And 21.3 for this tank.

Jmbull. Are you using A/C, how often do you have to stop for lights? Do you let your car idle a lot? (Aside from at red lights).
That's what I've seen to be the biggest killers for me... if I go to the city after hypermiling the back roads my mpg drops by 10ish mpg if I've recently reset the dic(mpg counter)

I've got a 1.4t 6MT so I can't exactly compare to you. But my parts guy had a 1.8 auto hatch and he said that as long as he kept the RPMs below 2100 he could get into the 40mpg range and that was with a mix of short trips and highway. So mayybbee try accelerating just hard enough to not go past that and see what happens? (You said you just keep up with traffic so idk if u already do this)

Anyway hope maybe some part of that helps
