Why did you choose Sedan or Hatchback?

Here's another question for the masses. Would you buy a 2 door hatchback Sonic?
I definitely would. Usually 2 door hatchbacks have more storage space in the hatch than a 4 door. The fuel economy would probably be a little better also.

Eh, not necessarily. The number of doors does not usually info ence storage space because overall length of car is the same and interior is basically the same. Ex: Golf
I bought a hatchback because I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast so I need the practicality and versatility if the hatch. Since I live alone, my back seats are always down and dog and outdoor gear ride in the back. Hatchbacks are the perfect solution for me.

Like many said before, it's just a personal preference.
In my case, I never liked hatchbacks before but when I was getting my sonic, I had these two cars sisde by side and I could not help it but like the hatchback more... it looked, more hip? IDK sportier? with the spoiler and all, way better than the sedan IMHO.
So there, I jumped the fence to the hatchback side and loving it, plus if you need to fit a large bulky item, it gets in easy if you have a hatch.

I'm with most of the other hatchback owners. I bought the hatchback because I think it looks better, and because of its more flexible cargo hauling capability.
Having said this, I certainly see the appeal of the sedan ... especially compared to the Cruze. It is cheaper, has almost the identical drivetrain options, yet it is almost as good in terms of interior room and haulage capabilities. And so while most Sonic sales have been hatchbacks, the folks who apt for the sedan certainly aren't making a poor choice.

Everyone keeps saying how the hatchback hauls cargo better but place 4 passengers into the car and tell me which hauls cargo better. 
I went in with the intention to purchase a hatch but after seeing how much room was available with the seats up I had to go with the sedan due to the fact that I have passengers sometimes and when I do I need all my seat space and cargo space. Hatch is by far better when the seats are down although with seats up the sedan wins that contest hands down.
Either way I agree that both are great cars just depends on your use.

I think others including myself are talking about the size of the item that can fit through the opening. If you try to put a large air conditioner in your trunk it probably won't fit. Also your probably overloading the suspension if you have 4 adults and a trunk full of heavier stuff.

Well of course you can fit a larger item in a larger opening, what I am talking about is actual usable space when you have people in the back seat and that is minimal in the Hatch.
I would borrow a truck to load an AC even if I had a hatch.
Never said it was adults in the back with a full trunk, I have nephews that come for visits frequently and I pick them up at the airport. Myself, my Fiance, a 12 year old, a 10 year old with two pieces of luggage shouldn't overload my suspension but try seating 4 people with 2 suitcases in the hatch was my main point.

We have a Sonic hatch and sedan. It's true that you can fit a larger dimension box in the hatch because of the larger opening; but the trunk is huge in the sedan and will consume a vast amount of cargo with the seats in the up position. There is precious little cargo room in the hatch with the seats up.

That's absolutely correct. Thing is, I never have more than 1 passenger. My dog rides in the back with the back seats folded 100% of the time.

My recently departed rustic green Plymouth Sundance was sorta a hatch back sedan. It looked like a sedan but the trunk lid was hinged at the top of the rear window.
In the 16 years I owned her I have difficulty remembering when I may have folded the rear seat backs down.
Besides the Sonic sedan being cheaper they were much more numerous when I bought mine (2013) last month.

Bowling balls/bowling ball bags don't quite equal two full sized suit cases and backpacks but I get your point.

I must use smaller suitcases than normal. I am sure I could fit two suitcases behind my seat without any issues. Never tried though. The rear hatch has more room than it looks like it does.
I find the HB to be far easier for a camping trip than my old Z24 coupe was. The Z24 is fairly close in total volume to a sedan, but it took some skill to pack it for a group camping weekend. I can cram more stuff into the Sonic than I could the Z24.
I also prefer the look of the HB over the sedan. If a coupe version was to be released I might have to look into that.

Hatchback all the way!
I'm a musician and I always wished I had a hatchback when I had my old civic sedan. Fitting a bass drum on the civic was a bit of a hassle. Everything fits easier and faster in the Sonic hatch. Also I can fit my little jazz kit perfectly in the back...with the seats up! I always forget to take pics of my Sonic when I have it ready for the gig.
And hmmm a coupe hatch…ehhh naa, no thanks.

I originally wanted a sedan, was considering a Cruze but without a larger engine, the Cruze was too slow and not "sporty" enough for me. So I went with the Sonic instead (it's not fast by any means, but it's fun to drive).
Didnt even look at or test drive anything but an RS, drove the auto first then a few months later drove my manual and bought it same day.

Hatch, I was able to take myself and 3 of my friends on the 8 hour drive to West Virginia for a long weekend to go white water rafting and rock climbing. We were able to fit everything in the hatch and still be able to see out of the back window. Not to mention the Sonic was like a go-cart in the twists and turns of mountain roads.
I can't wait to go back this year with the tune and hopefully some coilovers on the car.
