Why did you choose Sedan or Hatchback?

It doesn't though. You are comparing only the sedans TRUNK, if you use the back seats of the sedan like you would use the back seats of your hatch the sedan would still win.

Let's have a friendly little wager I invite a hatch owner to a car loading contest to have fun and settle this once and for all.

I have a bunch of new empty 14"x12"x10" cardboard boxes still folded up flat, lets fold them into boxes see how many will fit in my sedan and your hatch. Winner gets 'told ya so' bragging rights!

Hatchback with rear seats UP: 19.0 cubic feet. This figure includes ONLY the area BEHIND the rear seats when they are in an UPRIGHT position.

With the rear seats in the hatchback DOWN, it has 47.7 cubic feet of cargo space, which is significantly more cargo space than the sedan has with its rear seats also DOWN.

Feel free to contact Chevrolet Motor Company directly for confirmation of what I'm saying.

Not really. Im actually really interested in how that would even be. Im guessing only because the hatch area is taller than the sedan. Cubic feet is width x length x depth, so if its bigger in one aspect the cubic feet will be bigger, . Not to mention if you use all of the height you wont be able to see out the back of the hatch.

Seeing as the sedan is 14 inches longer im very curious to really see what one does have more space

I guess the argument is available space VS functional space and what your needs are. I have a sedan. I can see the benefits of the hatch in many situations but the sedan still won for us. For what we needed it to do, it had more functional space.

When we take off on a road trip with the kids and luggage, the hatch wouldn't have worked. Just not enough room behind the seat area. The trunk in the sedan is HUGE for the size of the car.

I prefer the styling of the sedan over the hatch (minus a few exceptions) but it varies by the color of the car too. White and black are good in both, but something like the orange is better suited to the hatch IMO.

I ended up with a sedan mostly because I found an incredible deal on mine with the two most important options to me- 1.4 6MT

many things came to my decision with getting the sedan.

A.) I prefer sedans over hatches
B.) I liked the possibilty of different looks and upgrades a Sedan offers, vs a Hatch
C.) The Rear end of the Sedan makes for more ease of mind if rear ended, where as the Hatch, its Not as comforting with a very small space between the rear of the car and the back seat.
D.) The hatch is nice, it is, but i just prefered the lines and look of the Sedan...
E.) That Trunk in the Sedan is Massive for the cars size as another stated...
F.) and the deciding factor for me was how amazing the Sedan looks with the 3D Carbon Body Kit installed vs the Hatch with a kit.

So i bought the sedan... Plus i tend to always have to lugg someones arse around therefor needing a backseat to be available at all times with the trunk being the storage space. To each their own. Hatch would have come in handy for many tall items ive bought, but im very happy with my Sedan!

A major reason for me getting the sedan is it has a trunk lid. I need it for my ham radio mag mount antenna. Too tall if on the roof.

I recently moved. Both Sonics were loaded from the back of the front seats, all the way to the back (making sure the hatch would close. I was able to fit a microwave, several boxes, rifles, bathroom rug, clothes, liquor, and an upright vacuum cleaner. Most of these items probably wouldn't fit in the sedan.

I have no experience with the Sonic sedan, but the problem I've always had with sedans is the little door/hatch that you open up. The door size limits what you can fit through.

Also, really long things can fit through, but can't make it over the lip of the trunk, allowing the lid to close. I could easily fit a bike in my Corolla, but the lip prevented the bike from going in all the way. I like the hatch because it's flush and there is no lip to worry with.
