Got 40 mpg on the highway

My MPG has been steadily improving over the 4 months I've had it. In stopNgo traffic I'll get around 30, high speed on the highway will see around 34. The really impressive number I have seen is night cruising on Woodward, when I am able to slide through all the lights. I have had my AVG MPG read over 43 MPG!

After I picked up my car in West Virginia, I averaged about 36mpg at 72mph. I was about 40 at 65mph. This was from the dash. I will verify at the pump soon. Beats what I used to get at about 20mpg.

Holy crap I must have a lead foot for sure... according to my car, we average 24.5 mpg; granted most we do is city stop n go... but even my first 500 mile trip I still only got about 33-36... I gotta figure this out! lol

'13 RS. Stock for 10k and tuned for the last 20k. I've never seen below 30mpg.

Over 50 mpg highway

I have a 2012 1.4L T LTZ with 6 speed manual keeping it at 58 mph on the highway gets me over 50 mpg and a much fatter wallet.

I have a 2012 Sonic LT 1.8 6A with almost 60k miles. I drive 125 miles a day and average about 33 mpg a week. I run the AC on the way home in the afternoon and drive at 73 mph. When it was cooler and I did not have to use the AC, I averaged almost 35 mpg one week.

Yes, 40 mpg is awesome--IF you can get it! I think 32 is the most I've gotten on a long trip, but daily/weekly usage around town is more like 25.5 at the most for me. I've had my 2012 Sonic for almost 2 years.

All engines perform better after a proper break-in period.

40 mpg is awesome isn't it?!?!

Even on my worst week, I never spend more than $25 filling the car back up (from 1/4-1/2 empty)...

Imagine driving a Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado with a V8... $25 will get you just past "E"

This week I averaged 34 mpg driving 125 miles a day combined highway and city, about 100 miles being highway. I drive at 73 mph and oly need to use he AC in the afternoon going home from work. I make sure my tires are properly inflated, use full synthetic oil and cruise control when practical.

I filled up one time and it was almost a straight shot home, and I actually saw over 40 mpg for a while until I ran into some hills.

I drive a 1.8 hatch and tested a few different speeds out. Here's what I got on average
50 mph: 55 mpg
60 mph: 40 mpg
70 mph: 30 mpg
80 mph: 26 mph
90 mph: 20 mpg

The conclusion I got from this is that the great fuel economy comes from the small engine, but that the car is super un-aerodynamic lol

Perhaps the sedans are more aerodynamic?
The first few months of production had "belly pans" that improved aerodynamics.
They were deleted due to a fire hazard issue.

get 34-35 back and forth to work
get 38.5-40 on the highway

The main reason I switched to the Sonic was the projected Gas Mileage... I hope I hit the 40 MPG mark...

So far the best that I've managed out of a full tank was 42mpg. That's with alot of driving under speed limit and babying it around town. That being said, I drive alot! Somewhere in the ballpark of 1000-2000 a week. I average around 36-38 in mixed driving. That's without alot of effort on my part and according to the DIC, which I've measured several times manually and come the the conclusions that it's almost always +/- 1mpg either way. Love the little car. At the dealership now though because of some major unexpected issues, but i'll save those for another post because I"ve been mostly a major lurker since I've joined and it appears that I haven't posted my prerequisite 10 posts.
